2018 is the year that I want to get back to storytelling. Growing up, I use to make up
many fictional stories turning people around me into main characters, and creating a world of my very own. I also did Spoken Word poetry in high school and a little bit in college, which allowed me to tell stories of my pain and others’ pain around me. I believe everyone and everything has their/its unique story, and I would love to express my content through stories, which brings me to today’s story:
It’s so funny how my relationship made its debut on social media once I got pregnant in the middle of last year. Me, pregnant, was definitely one of the things that I would have never guessed would happen, but it’s even crazier how quickly life happens in a matter of months. One month I’m on my first trip out of the country with my girls in Jamaica having the time of my life, then months later I’m knocked up carrying a child for the love in my life.
I’ve never been the kind of person to share my relationship with social media, but of course with a pudge growing inside of me, the cat would soon be out of the bag. Many don’t know, but my and Trey’s relationship isn’t one that just happened overnight. It’s one that began many years ago during Freshman year of college at Dillard University before I transferred to my now alumni, Howard University. Yep, we had that good o’l HBCU love going on! ✊🏾
Our love is the kind of love that although we took a break for 3 years, a fire still burned between us as we sporadically kept in touch from time to time. It’s that kind of love that we had to experience, lose and only once we lost it, then realize that none of our other relationships could amount to the love and passion we had for each other. So, of course, when the opportunity to rekindle presented itself during Essence Festival weekend in New Orleans, LA, the summer of 2016, we jumped at it and hit the ground running full speed. I remember it so vividly. We were like two kindred spirits being pulled towards one another aching to get closer physically and mentally.
It took us five months after meeting again to make it official, and I didn’t realize how much I was holding my breath for that moment. Fast forward to a year later, which today marks our 1 year rekindling anniversary, I can honestly say that the past year has been a year of relearning how to love and understand each other in the way we needed from one another. It was a year filled with surprises, as we are about to become parents soon in February. It was also a year of ups and downs; celebrating the highs and helping each other through the lows, while loving each other unconditionally through it all.
As we enter 2018 with love overflowing, and with a partnership that will only grow with time and experience, I’m so excited to see where this journey as new parents will lead us. Trey being more so on the reserved side, while I’m more of a fire cracker, I can only imagine how our little brown son will be once he enters into this world. I couldn’t see myself having a child with anyone else, and I can’t help but think that this was meant to be; written in the stars long ago.
I hope 2018 brings you all as much love as 2017 brought us, and I can’t wait to share many more stories with you all. Thank you for reading our story. Leave a comment below letting me know your thoughts, and I hope you enjoyed the very fashion forward maternity photos! We had to get a bit chic and glam so that our baby could remember how beautiful/dapper his parents were while awaiting his arrival!
Happy New Year Steezers! ❤️🎉
Until next time,
